Losing start for Eagles

The eagerly awaited start to the season arrived and Eagles were pitted against last years runaway Championship winners Shelton Athletic. The game started very evenly and Bedfont had the first real chance, but with the goal gapping Cain could only steer his shot goalwards and a covering defender cleared the danger. Shelton got the lead direct from a free-kick, a needless foul leading to the free kick.

The second half continued to flow from end to end and Eagles equalised via a spectacular volley from Billy, giving their keeper no chance. Eagles still gave away needless free kicks and this lead to Sheltons 2nd goal. This time Daniel pushed the ball onto the bar, but the Shelton player reacted first and turned the ball into the net. 1-2. Eagles pushed for a equaliser, but the nearest they came was a free kick that hit the post and was duly cleared.
