Fantastic start to the Season

So today the first game of our first competitive game of the season was away at AC Fulham.

We knew that it wasnt going to be an easy game, and for the first 10 minutes of the match we struggled to get back to normality.

From the very start, it was a much more physical match than what we are used to. Joe scored a great goal after 9 minutes. Unfortunately this lead was short lived as AC Fulham scored to equalise 5 minutes later. There were a few shots from Toby and Joe that didnt make the back of the net, but Elliot and Andreas were holding their own and staying very strong in defence. Kieren and Latham were taking care of business midfield despite being barged everywhere!!!

The second half was much more eventful, James replaced Toby up front and made a few nice runs with the ball and stayed strong. AC Fulham took a goal kick, and Joe nicked it and scored again. From this Eagles went from strength to strength, soon after this Latham put his name on the score sheet, with a beautiful bit of pass work between him and Kieren. A few minutes later Kieren took a shot that also found the back of the net.

AC Fulham won a pentalty, which had us all sitting on the edge of our chairs, you could literally hear a pin drop. AC Fulham took the penalty, SHAY SAVED!!!! YESSS!!! SHAY SAVED!!!!! They didnt give up though and tried to score with the deflection, but Shay did not give in and kept his goal clear! Great Work Shay! Shay cleared the ball, Latham picked it up took it straight up the other end and scored again!!

Toby returned to the pitch for Joe who hadnt stopped running and working so hard. Not long after this Toby went in for the tackle and was fouled by AC Fulham who went in with his boot up, due to sheer frustration. Toby was injured so him and Joe swapped places for a few minutes, soon after Toby returned to the pitch for Latham. Toby had a shot but couldnt find the back of the net.

James took a beautiful header!!! Unfortunately it went a little wide, but great try anyway James. Joe was also not finished and took a great shot from outside the box, but it hit the crossbar!!

In football, it is generally the up front players that get most of praise by scoring etc, but feel i should mention in our first report of the season how important defenders are, Throughout the whole match Elliott and Andreas done a fantastic job in defence, they spoke to each other and had eachothers backs. Andreas love the way you clear the ball back to where we need it to be. Elliot, you closed down every player that was attacking, you consistantly kept strong through out the game. You never took your eyes of that ball and made sure it werent getting past you! We are all very proud of you! Great job you went above and beyond today!!

Man of the match today is Elliot because you did a fantastic job and you definately contributed to our win today.

Looking forward to this brand new season, especially now that we have got off to a flying start!!

See you all on Thursday at training!
