A learning curve.

Early on a Sunday morning during the bank holiday weekend, we had our (what I consider to be) first full on friendly of the new season.

After Spelthorne Sports had cancelled due to lack of a team, we were saved by CB Hounslow who needed a game.

They play in the division above us, and are finding their way into 9 a side too, so theres a lot to learn on both sides. As these games are in the summer all teams are playing players which are on trial, or just being borrowed to be able to fulfil the fixture, which we both needed.

I was over the moon that Alex Cooper from our Rangers side could help out with three of his more senior players. All three equipped themselves very well, Jake earned himself the Man of the match award, Bobby looked really comfortable at right back and George threw himself in wholeheartedly. I think the future looks bright for those boys.

We had two that didn't turn up and a couple who were late. It doesn't help with the match preparations, it takes time to focus on the job in hand, let alone getting warmed up so the possibility of injury is less.

I'd like to make it clear that we want the players at the venue 30 mintues before kick off. I know it's not always easy, but it's the health of the kids and match preparation which counts.

So to the match.

Very even is the best way to view it to be honest. A few chances both ways. Some terrific saves from Stan in our goal, really quick off his line, brave and confident.

Andreas is really settling into the role of marshalling our defence, with each game his reading of situations is getting better and better. As his confidence is growing he's showing more composure. Jake and Luca worked tirelessly in the centre of the park. Joe looks to be gaining more understanding of his role up front. At the moment, creating chances and opening up one on ones is more important than the actual scoring of goals. His natural talent will get him the goals once he shows the confidence to make the runs.

Aiden worked really hard again, his composure is coming and I really look forward to seeing his future with us. Frankie arrived for the game expecting to play in goal, played at left back in the first third, up front in the second and back to right back in the third. It's important that the boys can be moved around, can understand the various roles on the pitch, and do it all with a smile and a will to succeed.

We took the lead in the first third and for the rest of the game held our own against a willing side. We had a couple of really good one on ones, and a couple of really dubious offside decisions against us. I guess it's going to be the way. Home linos always have and always will be an issue. Whenever possible it's best to try to rise above it. Let the kids get rewarded for great play by either side.

Well done again boys.
