County cup exit

A muddy pitch and Bedfont were playing Sandgate Youth in the next round of the County Cup.

Bedfont kicked off and straight away Sandgate got the ball and pushed forward with a shot just going wide. Sandgate kept the pressure on Bedfont and were shutting down nearly every ball.

Bedfont started pushing back and the game and some great football from both teams was being played but Sandgate took advantage of Bedfont not reacting fast enough and stormed forward and scored 1-0. This threw Bedfont out and suddenly the passing went to pieces and it seemed like every pass was going directly to Sandgate. Bedfont came close to equalising but Tommy’s shot was saved. Once again Sandgate made the break and it was only a great saves from Nathan which denied them their second goal when he stopped the first shot and then got up to stop the second but minutes later the pressure from Sandgate got them their second goal 2-0.
A controversial decision from the referee came when he gave Sandgate a free kick when Nathan made the save and the ball rebounded off George back into his hands. The referee called this a back pass and gave the free kick within the box. This was cleared and shots from Josh and Shahan went wide or saved but once again Sandgate came right back and stormed through our defence and scored their third goal just before half time 3-0.

The second half started and Bedfont were like a new team and started pushing forward and shots from Jimmy and Shahan were saved. From the goal kick Sandgate got the ball and came very close when their shot hit the post and rebounded out. Bedfont kept their heads up and really tried to get back into the game and when Tommy laid the ball onto Josh who knocked the ball past the Sandgate keeper cheers from the their team mates and the parents gave them a lift.

Further shots from Nathan and Abbas came very close to narrowing the gap but were saved or just over the cross bar. The game was now very much end to end and once again it was only some great saves from Nathan which stopped Sandgate going further ahead. Bedfont also came close with a shot from Shahan and breakaways being called offside. With minutes left Sandgate finished off the game when they broke down the Bedfont defence and scored the final goal of the game.

Final score 4-1 to Sandgate

It was a tough game and Sandgate were determined to win and retain the title. Some great football was played and Sandgate shut down Bedfont options really well.
