First Game County Cup

The long wait was over and the first game of the season was a County Cup game against Brunswick.

The whistle blew and Brunswick went straight on the attack and started putting pressure on the Bedfont defence but they held together and did not allow them through. Bedfont pushed back and with a counter attack with Michael and Conner making a break down the left wing and laid the ball on to Abbas whose shot went just wide.

Both teams were really eager to get off the mark and Brunswick once again moved forward and it was only a great save from Nathan that stopped them taking the lead but this was followed by two close shots from Tommy which were both saved. The stalemate ended when Sam and Jimmy worked together down the right wing passing the ball down the line Sam laid the ball on Jimmy who shot the ball straight into the top of the net to make it 1-0 to Bedfont. The game restarted but Bedfont went on the attack again, some great football between Abbas and Tommy down the centre of the pitch resulted in Tommy taking a great shot which hit the post and rebounded into the back of the net 2-0.

Brunswick did not take this well and lapse of concentration by Bedfont allowed them to get a shot off which went into the corner of the Bedfont goal. The score now 2-1 to Bedfont and Brunswick were really trying to get the equaliser. Sam and Jimmy once again played the ball to one another and laid the ball into Tommy but his shot went just wide. Brunswick came close minutes later when they were awarded a free kick but the next goal came when the ball went into the box and came off the head of Abbas and landed with Tommy who took the shot and placed into the corner of the net 3-1. Bedfont had further shots from jimmy and Abbas but they were saved or just wide. With only minutes to spare a free kick was awarded for a tackle on Michael, Nathan stepped up and shot the ball over the wall into the top corner of the net while their goalie could just watch it happen. The whistle went for half time and the score was 4-1 to Bedfont.

Second half started and Bedfont were unlucky when Nathans shot went just wide. Brunswick were still trying to get back into the game but could not get through the Bedfont defence. A free kick given to Brunswick and once again a brilliant save by Nathan who pushed the ball over the top denied them another goal. Both teams were trying hard and the ball was going end to end but when a Brunswick player was given a red card by the referee you could see their players getting very frustrated. Further shots from Josh and Nathan were saved but in the dying moments of the game a ball laid on by Abbas to Josh who then ran through two defenders and placed the ball into the net to make the final score 5-1 to Bedfont.

Man of the match was Jimmy which was well deserved as he played a great game.
