League debut ends in defeat

Sports went into our 1st league game with a side that was much changed from Tuesday nights victory in the FA Cup. Paul Johnson had to once again make a number of changes with James Russell, James Simmonds and Scott Harris all being unavailable for our debut in the Bostik league.

Sports started brightly and the opening 10 minutes saw sports boss the game on an excellent surface at Hanwell Town, however despite our early pressure it was the home side who took the lead on 10 minutes with what was there 1st venture into the sports half, a cross from wide was met by Hanwells forward who headed in from close range. Despite sports continuing to dominate the ball Hanwell could have been 3-0 up at half time as the hosts missed 2 more glorious chances as sports failed to cope on the break.

The 2nd half didn't start well as the Home team were soon 2-0 up, an excellent corner was headed home early in the 2nd half which looked like it had finished sports off. We then did come back into the game without really testing the Hanwell keeper, and Hanwell were now looking dangerous with every attack. Keeper Rourke Pickford misjudged a back pass and as it bounced over his head he had no choice but to bring down the goal bound forward. Once again Hanwells forward made no mistake dispatching the Penalty, 3-0 down and very much game over. Sports then had there best spell and Jack Mills and Joe Jackson both tested the keeper. The introduction of Tom Neale and Jordan Sarfo both added a new threat to our front line and on 88 minutes Jack Mills dispatched from the edge of the box to give sports fans something to cheer about.

Final score 3-1 to Hanwell who were worth all 3 points, Sports are just finding there feet at this new level and we will play worse and win games over the course of the season.
