Saturday 30th September 2023, Reading City 0-6 Bedfont Sports FC.

Saturday the 30th of September 2023 saw The Sports travel to Reading City after an emphatic 5-0 victory away to Hillingdon Borough FC the previous weekend.

The Sports started with: Henry Poole in goal, Tommy O'Neill and Josh Eatwell either side of Scott Weight and Charlie Wickham at the back, Max Webb, Jordan Ireland (C) and Thomas Kanek complete the midfield, Mark Bitmead, Efraim Difuamna-Ngungi and Jake Beck lead the attack.

Well what can I say, late goals have been the theme so far this season so the 1 time I turn up 10 minutes late I wasn't expecting to miss much. As I exit my car I heard a roar of what can only be described as the rug rats from The Rec ;D so I grabbed my phone whipped out Twitter and much to my amazement The Sports were 3-0, YES 3-0 up inside 10 minutes! TK picking up the first goal after 4 minutes, a Reading City player turned in Bitmeads cross in the 6th minute to give The Sports a 2-0 lead. On the 8th minute Efraim scored his 3rd in 3 games since joining. Finally I saw a goal on the 42nd minute when Mark Bitmead converted a spot kick earning The Sports a 4-0 lead heading into the second half.

HT - RCFC 0-4 BSFC

The second half did not start the as fast as the first but Bedfont remained on top controlling the game moving the ball around nicely, The Sports then bounced the ball around the edge of the box teasing The Sports fans until a simple 3 yard pass breaks the Reading back line allowing Jordan Ireland to burst through and side foot the ball under the goalkeeper to earn a 5-0 lead on the 61st minute. Sports fans only had to wait 10 minutes for another goal as Efraim just couldn't help himself but add his 4th in 3 games to put The Sports 6-0 up! The drama was not over yet as No12 for Reading was sent off in the 75th minute for a bad challenge on Max Webb but The Sports failed to add to the score line after this point as Reading dug in to hold the free flowing Sports side from adding more.

FT - RCFC 0-6 BSFC

If I'm honest I do not know who got MOTM but Mark Bitmead has picked up Sports Player of the Month for September and deservedly so scoring 5 goals in 5 games this month. Overall a great performance against a strong Reading side that are going to be a real problem for most teams this season, 2 wins on the bounce now for The Sports and a strong foundation to build on form, 11 goals scored in 2 games, 0 goals conceded.

This result keeps us in 9th place but with a couple games in hand The Sports now have the opportunity to pull themselves right up into the mix so hopefully this form continues!

Massive thank you to Reading for hosting us, great ground with loads of potential, great people and all round fantastic set up! We look forward to meeting again at the return fixture @ The Rec!
