16th September 2023, Bedfont Sports 1-1 Ardley Utd.

Saturday the 16th September saw The Sports face a visit from Ardley Utd in our 7th league fixture of the season.

To start for The Sports was Henry Poole back in between the sticks, Tommy O'Neill, Josh Eatwell, Scott Weight and Stephen Langley complete the back four, Thomas Kanek, Jordan Ireland (C) and Max Webb in midfield and The Sports front line consists of James Cottee, Mark Bitmead and debutant Efraim Difuamna-Ngungi!

The first half was end to end but Bedfont finding themselves having the better of the opening exchanges and would have been frustrated heading into half time 0-0. Jordan Ireland found his effort miss the target on minute 2 while Mark Bitmead also misfired on the 16th minute from a Max Webb corner. The best chance of the half fell to new signing Efraim who was one on one with the goalkeeper but his effort was saved by the Ardley Utd goalkeeper.

HT BSFC 0-0 AUFC

The second half was much like the first but Ardley Utd made The Sports pay for all their missed chances on the 66th minute when Gavin James tucked away his opportunity giving Ardley a 1-0 lead. Bedfont now had to fight back which is not new territory for this Sports side, Ardley began to slow the game down. The Ardley GK receiving a yellow for holding onto the ball too long gave The Sports an indirect free kick inside the box only for Bitmead to rattle the post! On the 86th minute Bedfont were rewarded for their perseverance when Jake Beck picked the ball up around the half way line and pinged a ball so beautifully Bitmead could only take it in his stride, crosses the ball and debutant Efraim pokes the ball past the GK, 1-1! Ardley hit the bar on the 90th minute. Minutes later Jake Beck only finds the GK when he is presented with an opportunity to win the game for The Sports.

FT BSFC 1-1 AUFC

This result leaves Bedfont Sports 9th in the league with 11 points out of a possible 21.

Huge thank you to the people at Ardley Utd, great people and an organised team that will cause a lot of opposition problems this season, best of luck and we look forward to the return fixture.
