The Sports' FA Cup Magic fizzles out!

Tuesday the 22nd of August saw The Sports travel down to the coast after salvaging a last minute equaliser to keep the FA Cup magic alive, knowing Herne Bay would be looking to react following their display on Saturday, The Sports always had a tough task at hand.

The Sports lined up with Henry Poole in goal, Louis Dailey, Trisdon Andrews, Stephen Langley and Joe Smith make up the back line, Tommy O'Neil, Jordan Ireland (C) and Thomas Kanek are the midfield three, finally Mark Bitmead, Alfie Lal and Dawson Straffon lead The Sports attack.

From minute 1 you could see Herne Bay had some stern words in the dressing room prior to kick off as they bopped the ball around for fun, almost looked a completely different side to Saturday, repeatedly testing The Sports back line over and over again eventually breaking the deadlock with a bicycle kick from an inch perfect cross Herne Bay took the lead, 1-0. Quickly after this Herne Bay doubled their lead to 2-0 and looked to shut Bedfont out of the game while half time couldn't come quick enough for The Sports.

The second half under way and Bedfont were playing better football but just lacking the final pass, struggling to break the Herne Bay defence you could see The Sports were beginning to become frustrated but continued to push for something from the game when the Herne Bay striker killed all Sports fans hope, adding to the scoreline and finishing the game off 3-0.

A long journey for The Sports to return following the defeat but considering the football we played, there was not much between the two sides other than Herne Bay being much better in the final third than us. Massive thank you to Herne Bay for hosting us, a fantastic ground with great fans and the best loaded fries along the coast!
