The Sports leave it until the 101st minute to force a replay away to Herne Bay on Tuesday night.

Saturday the 19th August saw Bedfont Sports looking to book their spot in the next round of the FA Cup at HOME to Herne Bay FC in front of 124 spectators.

Bedfont lined up with Henry Poole in goal, a back four consisting of Louis Dailey, Stephen Langley, Joe Smith and Trisdon Andrews, in midfield was Jordan Ireland (C), Tommy O'Neil and Max Webb and finally a front three of Mark Bitmead, Harrison Livingstone and Alfie Lal.

The first half had no scorers for either side but plenty of whistle blows as I think the referee came to officiate a basketball match, the referee gave Bedfont a free kick on the edge of the box for a foul made 5 yards inside it which Mark Bitmead blasted over the bar, 5 minutes later The Sports should have been awarded another penalty for another clear foul within the area but was not given by the ref. Bedfont were very much the better side in the first half and would have been disappointed to head into half time 0-0 considering we created chance after chance and Bitmead having his chance foiled by the Herne Bay GK, you would have bet your house on him scoring! Heading into half time Bedfont would have been feeling a tad hard done by but needed to keep applying the pressure in the second half to get something out of the game.

HT - BSFC 0-0 HBFC

The second half started with the same tempo as the first but this time Herne Bay were asking questions of the Bedfont back line, the ball is lofted into the box and both a Bedfont and Herne Bay player jumped to meet the ball in the air but as the Herne Bay player jumped a bit higher and landed awkwardly inside the box the referee gave a penalty to Herne Bay in the 58th minute. The spot kick was converted giving Herne Bay a 1-0 lead. The Sports fans then began to rally behind the team creating and atmosphere and changing the momentum of the game as Bedfont began to lead the attack again Alfie Lal having the best opportunity of the lot in the 6 yard box only for the Herne Bay GK to make another fantastic save! 2 minutes after Alfie's chance Jordan tries to curl one in from distance only for the Herne Bay GK to pull off a top corner save keeping The Sports from evening the score line. Bedfont continued to attack the Herne Bay goal, when the game seemed dead and buried Bedfont were awarded a corner in the 101st minute, the ball is delivered and the ball bounces around the box for a hot sec when a shot was taken and Joe Smith followed up the shot to fumble the ball behind the line! Bedfont Sports erupted as The Sports had snatched another late goal in the FA Cup to force a replay away on Tuesday night.

The Sports looked really good today, a dominant performance and on another day win the game 4 or 5-1, grabbing another last minute goal the lads have shown again they have character and have that never say die attitude. Tommy O'Neil picked up MOTM today and deservedly so, but with that said big performance from everyone, lets get up for the Cup this Tuesday the 22nd!!

Massive thank you to all the Herne Bay officials and fans, fantastic to have you all back down to The Rec and we look forward to doing it all again Tuesday night!!
