As a boy you want to play in the FA Cup, its the greatest competition in the world. Since Sports 1st entered 10 years ago we have never gone beyond the 1st Qualifying round, so this tie against much fancied Carshalton was a massive ask for Sports young guns after there heroics in the last round against Lewes FC.

Carshalton were a totally different problem for sports, but with Ricky Wellard returning to the side we always have a chance. Sports spent most of the 1st half defending deep and allowing Carshalton to control the game, without really hurting us. The 2nd half they stepped up there game and for a 15 minute period after half time they looked like they would run away with the tie. Sports however worked there socks off and kept Carshalton at bay, lead by Michael Kinsella and Skipper Dimi in goal we turned away wave after wave of attack. Manager Paul Johnson then introduced Super Mario, aka Ricardo Andre, this gave the sports fans a real lift, and within 3 minutes he helped send the crowd into dreamland, riding 2 challenges his cross field pass found Shamal Edwards, who never needs an invitation to race a full back, he raced clear and rolled sports 1-0 up.

Carshalton then threw the kitchen sink at Sports with a number of changes, but the back 4 of Kevin, Kinsella, the Kasier and Olly held firm, being marshalled by the general Dimi behind them. Sports then put the tie to bed and the wizard Darryl Sanders found Shamel Edwards, who beat 3 players before rifling the ball home to a roar from the sports faithful.

There was still time for a few more Carshalton attacks but by now you knew it was our day and a place in the 3rd Qualifying round. We will be hoping for another home tie, but we have had 3 already !!
