So it was on to Tuesday night, Jamie Read and Micky Parma returned to the side, along with youth team star man Darryl Sanders and Adam Fearn. Nathen Cooper was away so Fearn slipped into centre back for the 1st time this season.
Sports started brightly and on 11 mins Darryl Sanders dropped the shoulder and bent one in from 18 yards to put sports 1-0 up. Micky Parma looked like he had doubled our lead when he chipped the keeper, only for the Rayner Park centre back to hack it off the line. Sports Keeper Wines was then called into action and made 2 excellent saves low down to his left to keep the scores at 1-0 to sports at half time.
The second half saw us create more chances as Rayners Park looked for the equilizer, Jamie Read should have made it 2-0 on 2 occassions but snatched at his shots and both went wide (we can forgive him as he has got 10 goals for us !!). on 74 minutes Joel Saundersons free kick found the bottom corner to make it 2-0 to sports, much to the relief of our supporters. Rayners Park kept coming until the end and showed why they snatched 3 points from Ash in the dying minutes, but Wines, Pitt, Fearn, Dexter and Saunderson held there nerve and defended excellent to keep them at bay.
Final Score 2-0 to sports and a massive 3 points at the bottom, we now only have 3 cup finals left starting with Wembley on saturday in another must win game for sports to keep ourselfs away from the chasing pack.
