Our Isthmian XI

Our Isthmian XI

Terry Reader9 Feb 2021 - 15:35

So in recent weeks we have been asking supporters for our Bedfont Sports Isthmian best XI, so here it is

Bedfont Sports have not been in the Isthmian league long and in our 1st season we saw a number of players come and go as we adjusted to playing at a higher level. It feels it would have been a lot easier if we done our best XI from the last 5 years but the rules are the rules and we have pulled together our best XI from the Isthmian league only !!

Keeper - Dimitrios Kyriatzis
Super Dimi is our current keeper and is very much a massive fans fav at Bedfont Sports. He has given us some great moments over the past year with some amazing stops which has seen us have some great cup days and helped us earn some big league points.

Defenders
Will Plumridge - a surprise entry but since he made his debut at just 16 against the biggest forward in the world at Cheshunt away he has always been there to call on. 20 appearances over the past 3 seasons which Injury has hampered his game time, still only 19 he has a massive future at the club.

Joe Jackson - The skipper has made 126 appearances scoring 3 goals since his debut at the tender age of 16 in the 2013/14 season, when he was part of the famous great escape team that helped us from relegation from the combined counties. Injury this season has seen him not make an appearance since pre season, but the pandemic means when we return so will Joe !! He would have made over 200 appearances for sports but did go to Uni for 3 years just playing when back home during the holidays !!

Michael Kinsella - Big Mick is currently in his 2nd spell at the club after leaving sports back in our combined counites days for Chertsey Town only to return for the 2019/20 season. He has made 64 Appearances for Sports in his 2 spells and his never say die attitude means he is loved by sports fans.

Midfielders
Darryl 'The Wizard' Sanders - The clubs blue eyed boy, 124 appearances and 52 goals since his debut alongside his buddy Joe Jackson at the tender age of 16. Scored the winner on his debut against Alton away to secure sports a 2-1 win in a relegation battle as part of the great escape in the 2013/14 season. Missed a whole season due to a shocking injury but this season looks like the Wizard was back to his best. He would have made over 200 appearances for sports but did go to Uni for 3 years just playing when back home during the holidays !!

Paul Johnson - The Gaffa joined the club as a player back in September 2015 and soon became manager taking over from Mick Snowden. Johno has made 133 appearances with 11 goals, he also guided sports to promotion to the Isthmian league. 5 years as player manager and some memorable performances along with an all important goal in the promotion clinching game against Walton & Hesham makes him one of our key players in our history.

Ricky Wellard - Sometimes a player is just that good that you look past the fact he has only made 14 appearances since joining us towards the end of the 2019/20 season. Ricky is a joy to watch, amazing range of passing and a great influence on our young squad. Just gutted we have not seen more of him due to the pandemic and various lockdowns !!!

Simo Mbonkwi - AKA Jeff, no idea why the gaffa called him Jeff but he was a great guy to have around the club, you just never knew what Jeff would do next in a game which made him a favourite with the Sports fans. 98 appearances and 17 goals since his debut in the 2015/16 season. Jeff played for Sports in the Isthmian league until November 2018 when he left for Norwegian Professional side Nybergsund IL where he still ply's his trade now.

Forwards
Scott 'The Hitman' Harris - 47 goals for Sports over 2 seasons, Scott was a massive miss for sports when a serious injury called time on his Sports career, never a player defenders wanted to mark, a real handful with an eye for goal. His experience held sports together in our 1st season, earning us our 1st win in the Isthmian league with a hattrick away to chipstead

Mustafa Tiryaki - Big Mus joined sports with 6 games to go in our promotion season and became an instant hit scoring the winner for 10 man sports against title rivals SCR, he then hit 5 goals in the remaining 5 games to secure sports promotion. The big man has since returned to sports twice in the Isthmian league scoring some important goals and given the club some big performances, including in goal in a tough home win against Marlow !!

Charlie 'The Postman' Postance - Charlie joined sports in our Debut season in the Isthmian league and finished top goal scorer with an impressive 21 goals in 32 games. He moved to Westfield the following season and a serious injury saw his season end early along with his spell at Westfield. He returned to Sports for this current season scoring 2 more goals in 6 games as his comeback from injury took place before the pandemic paused the season. Hopefully loads more to come from the Postman !!

Sub
Despite this being our Isthmian XI you cant have a Sports team without Jamie'The King' Read. 54 goals in 81 games for sports across 5 seasons and 3 different spells with the club, The King has always answered the Sports call when asked, never lets us down and always scores a goal !!

So here is our Sports Isthmian XI, we know there is some great lads missing and im sure if the pandemic has not cut the 2019/20 season short and also paused the 2020/21 season some of these lads would have made alot more appearances !!
