Good Workout

No Substitute for hard work.
- Simon Edwards Youth Team Manager

with a big change in personnel from saturdays friendly we entertained Oxford City.We fielded several new trialists
Oxford were, as last years fixture, very well organised and coached.
But to our credit we opened the brighter of the two teams and a fantastic effort from Cally put us 1-0 up.
however after giving possession away from an attacking opportunity Oxford broke quickly and scored what I consider to be a soft goal.
Oxford took control and it took a while for the boys to regroup and reshuffle the pack. When they did, they pressed Oxford back into their own half and the last ten before half time I felt we had rode the storm and were back on top. Half time 1-1.
the second half was fairly even to begin with. We made a couple of changes.however,Oxford then took the lead, although their boy was clearly offside.
The ref chose to allow the goal and it was interesting to see the reaction from the team. too many sulked and did not take the challenge of getting back into the game some thought that running with the ball and taking everyone on was the answer to our set back.

. sure enough with 10 to go we went further behind to make it 1-3.
Some of the team rallied after this and indeed we hit the woodwork twice and missed a Penalty at 2-1. But you need the whole team to make the difference.
The result is irelevent at this stage of the season. But performances by individuals who want to make the squad let alone the team, are not.
so some with a plus and some with work to do.
We will change the group again on saturday, as some boys are returning from holidays. I am looking forward to the next game and hope that we up the performance as a team.
