The Generation Game.....
Uncle Terry and nephew Jay debut for Bedfont Sunday
Fortunately young Jay hasn't inherited Uncle Terry's footballing ability as he made an impressive debut for Bedfont Sunday last weekend. Coming on after just two minutes to replace David, our Albanian gangster hardman who got a slight scratch, Jay quickly got into the game and wasn't daunted by AFC Grove's physicality. Fortunately he also doesn't take after big brother Charlie, who sparked a 22 man brawl on his debut a couple of years ago, as Grove had some big lads.
Two goals from both Abdul and Darryl, plus a dodgy free kick that caught the wind and ended up in the net from Daly, saw Sunday win their ninth game on the trot. What a difference a season makes - with confidence sky high after last years cup win. Big test on Sunday though when we take on Away Days in a top of the table clash. An excellent run though and all credit to the lads who have often played on through injuries as we have been lacking subs.
Now back to Terry - the tension during the build up to his long awaited debut for our vets team was almost palpable. Would he still have it - could he still control a game like he did 30 years ago when he last played. The answer was no - he tripped over after only two minutes and had to come off.
Player Manager Jimmy Roberts commented after the game that the next time Terry will turn up for the vets will be when his dog needs his annual booster injections.
