Brave sports go down fighting in epic 5-4 defeat
Sports travelled to Hertford Town not really knowing what to expect, what they were met with was a great atmosphere, and a epic football match for all those that made the journey.
Paul Johnson was able to give Abs his 1st start for sports in what was a very adventurous attacking line up with Abs, Scott Harris and Charlie all playing in a 3 man forward line.
The game didn't start according to plan when after 40 seconds the Hertford forward found himself free in sports box to put them 1-0 up. It was soon 2-0 and sports looked like they might be on the end of a hiding. However on 16 minutes Scott Harris found Abs who coolly finished to make it 2-1. Sports then had the ball in the net but it was ruled offside and straight Hertford went down the other end and made it 3-1, which it stayed until half time.
Sports looked dead and buried but something in the half time tea must of sparked us into life and we came out with real purpose, Charlie pulled one back on 56 minutes and it was game on. Sports then pulled level on 73 minutes after abs was brought down, Jack Mills smashed the ball home. Then we took the lead on 75 minutes when abs got his 2nd of the night, 4-3 sports. On 81 minutes Hertford were awarded a penalty, which they missed and it looked like sports would have done enough. But roared on by there excellent support behind the goal they found themselves level on 87 minutes and it was now backs to the wall as both sides went for it toe to toe. Abs then hit the underside of the bar on 89 minutes and Jack Mills could not find the target with the goal at his mercy. Hertford then ran up the other end and on 93 minutes found a winner which felt like the home crowd had sucked into the net.
